Donald Trump just stepped in it

Like anyone who’s been caught in the act and isn’t sure how to try to get out of it, Donald Trump keeps changing his story when it comes to the Russian bounties on U.S. soldiers. Yesterday he claimed he’d never been briefed on it. Then he had his then-DNI Richard Grenell claim that he’d never even heard about it. Then this evening Trump tried a different lie – and he promptly stepped in it.

This evening Donald Trump tweeted this: “Intel just reported to me that they did not find this info credible, and therefore did not report it to me or VP.” That’s cute, but it’s incredibly sloppy. Congressman Ted Lieu was quick to point out that Trump’s latest assertion is in direct conflict with Grenell’s claims:

We’re going to see a lot more of this in the coming hours and days. As the media and/or whistleblowers continue to flesh out more of the story, We’ll see Donald Trump and his minions try to come up with new versions of events that paint them as somehow having been innocent in all this. The trouble is, they’re going to keep contradicting themselves and each other, as the truth continues to come out.
