It’s hard not to joke about a joke. That’s exactly what “president” Donald Trump is — a joke. We know it, and other world leaders know it. It is actually quite embarrassing that an American president is the butt of jokes during a visit in which he represents the U.S. before a body of world leaders. It’s as if we have no leader. When asked about Trudeau’s comments about him, Trump responded to a reporter in typical Trump childish language: “Well, he’s two-faced.” He might as well have said, “I know you are, but what am I?” You might call Trump a “man of very few words,” but it appears that he actually knows very few. Continuing his child-like behavior, Trump then bowed out of a news conference. If he can’t play his way, Trump takes his toys and goes home, just like the spoiled brat that he is.
When you consider his entire presence in London, it is little wonder that other leaders made fun of Trump. Emmanuel Macron fact-checked Trump to his face. Trump continued his patently false claim that ISIS has been defeated, and Macron responded, “I think number one priority, because it’s not yet finished, is to get rid of ISIS and these terrorist groups. This is our number one priority. And it’s not yet done. I’m sorry to say that.” At one point, Trump even claimed that the ISIS fighters are “primarily from Europe.” Macron once again slam-dunked Trump, relating that the largest group of ISIS fighters come from Syria and Iran. Really, when you don’t know what you’re talking about, wouldn’t it be best to keep quiet? Not Trump. He talks to hear himself. It doesn’t much matter to him what he says. The fact that he is saying it is supposed to make everyone step back and take notice. They do, but not in the way he thinks.
Trump has often pledged to “restore America’s dignity on the world stage,” saying that he doesn’t want “other leaders and other countries laughing at us anymore.” He is, of course, digging at President Obama, whom Trump claims was not respected. When comparing Obama and Trump, there is no comparison. No heads of state or world leaders ever laughed at President Obama. Where Trump got that notion is completely puzzling. President Obama was respected—and welcomed—by every country he visited. Trump, on the other hand, is not. We never saw videos of other leaders laughing about and making fun of President Obama, but Trump is an international punch line. No one respects him and why should they? He is a walking disaster.
Even Princess Anne refused to acknowledge Trump when he passed the royal receiving line, and she was also seen laughing at him. Who can help but laugh at him? He takes to the world stage to throw insults at Adam Schiff and to repeatedly disrespect President Obama. He is uncouth and has absolutely no ability to understand — let alone practice — protocol. But you can’t tell him any of this. If he honestly thinks denigrating other American leaders on the world stage is a good idea, he’s even dumber than first thought.
