Donald Trump insisted on giving an in-person commencement speech this past weekend at West Point, despite there being no good reason for it and exposing the world to the fact that he is not doing well physically, whatever might be wrong. He now plans to take his road show to Tulsa, Oklahoma, this Saturday for the first of his revived Cult 45 shows. The Trump campaign claims that more than a million people have signed up for an event with a capacity of 20,000.
Now, Tulsa officials are reportedly pleading with Trump to cancel this coronavirus shitshow. Tulsa is one of the places where new positive tests are spiking out of control. Dr. Bruce Dart, the Tulsa Health Department Director, stated:
“I think it’s an honor for Tulsa to have a sitting president want to come and visit our community, but not during a pandemic. I’m concerned about our ability to protect anyone who attends a large, indoor event, and I’m also concerned about our ability to ensure the president stays safe as well.”
Dr. Dart, like many other medical experts, knows what he speaks. However, rather than take it and cancel the rally, Trump prefers to attack the media and deny reality, tweeting: “The Far Left Fake News Media, which had no Covid problem with the Rioters & Looters destroying Democrat run cities, is trying to Covid Shame us on our big Rallies. Won’t work!”
115,000 and counting dead, a city on edge, and Trump will have tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, converging on a place that has a worsening spread of this deadly virus, and yet it is all about feeding his ego. The stadium hosting the rally is one that has cancelled all planned events through the end of July, the top doctor has informed Trump this is a terrible idea, and yet, he is arguing that this is just an effort to hurt him. Trump will have his followers potentially die to feed his ego.
